Pick you up at Senggigi or Teluk Kodek and or Airport then transfer to Senaru and check in at the accommodation. After dinner you will get briefing from your guide explains the route details, local traditions and what you might see, the rubbish management, safety procedures and tree plantation with the pine-like Casuarina species, Cemara are a feature of the grassy higher slopes, then also introduce you to your porters. If you reach Senaru by 14:00 or 15:00 pm then you have time to walk to the waterfall with your guide, enjoy the nice view of the rice terraces and the tropical forest.
Register at the Rinjani Trek Centre (RTC) in Senaru (601m) early in the morning, meet your guide and arrange National Park entry tickets. The RTC staff briefing describes the route details, local cultural traditions and what you might see, and explains rubbish management and safety procedures. The first hours of the trek climb steadily through thick tropical forests rich in flora, bird life and a variety of butterflies. You might see orchids, the long-tailed grey macaque monkeys (Kera) and, if lucky, the rare black ebony leaf monkey, known locally as lutung. Rusa deer are forest dwellers are occasionally seen along the trek trail. The smaller Barking deer or Kijang has an alarm call with a distinct dog-like bark. Rest stops are taken along the way, and in Pos 2 Montong Satas shelter (1,500m) where village stories and local legends are related by your guide. Features include the Bunut Ngengkang banyan tree that looks like someone standing with their legs apart and the Batu Penyesalan stone. Depending on your preference and weather conditions, the night’s camp is made either in the forest at Pos 3 Mondokan Lokaq (2,000m) after about five hours climb from Senaru, or continue the ascent for another couple of hours through grassy meadows to Plawangan 1 Senaru crater rim at 2,641m. Porters will prepare tree plantation, then you will make stop and every trekker will plant two trees. Then our team will take care of the trees. From the crater rim are sweeping views across to Bali and Mt Agung, and down to the Segara Anak Lake (2,000m) within the Rinjani crater. Mt. Baru (2,351m) is an island in the lake and an active volcano, last erupting dramatically in 1994.
Sunrise at the crater rim is a memorable start to Day 3, enjoyed after a pre-dawn two hour climb for those camping at Pos 3 Mondokan Lokaq. After enjoying the view, descend down the long trail down to Senaru village through first grassland then back into the shade of the tropical forest. After about seven hours from the rim, the trek ends at Rinjani Trek Centre at the road head in Senaru.
