Sesaot Village is located in West Lombok which has 1,743 households. Livelihood of about 1,400 households is derived through fruit farming. The fruits include durian, rambutan, mangosteen, mangoes and other crops like chocolate, bananas, papaya, taro, yam and cassava. The bordering forest has more than 40 water resources which makes cultivation of fruits convenient. In this village we offer travelers the unique opportunity to live on a fruit farm and learn the various techniques used here. Also, participating in our everyday activities gives a real insight into our lives.
Depending on the time of the year you plan to visit, you will be involved in the farming activities according to the life cycle of the fruits. From January-March, it is harvesting season, so you will be included in similar activities. It will be exciting as you will get to stay overnight in the garden if you wish to harvest durian early morning. On the other hand, April-December is mainly replanting season for papaya, taro, yam and cassava. This will give you an opportunity to learn more tricks used on the farm for planting and protecting the trees.
Working on a farm is fun but it also needs dedication and skill. We will share our knowledge with you and help you enjoy your stay. During your stay you will also learn how to make palm sugar from sweet wine and various processed foods like banana chips, sweet potato and taro chips.
On the final evening we will organize a farewell party for you. It is a good way to conclude your stay and share your experiences. Last day morning you will leave back for the airport with hopefully some great memories.
